UTI(urinary trypsin inhibitor) has been use as treatment for acute and chronic pancreastitis. A teratogenicity study was carried out in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats which had been treated intravenously with UTI, at dose levels of 300,000, 30,000,
3,000
unit/kg/day 0 unit/kg/day for 11 days from 6th day to 16th day og gestation period. While dams (F0) were administrated with UTI during the period of organ formation, there were no effects on the followings: general symptoms, increasement in body
weight,
food and water intake, autopsy results, organ weights and duration of pregnancy in the mother's generation (F0). The incidence of external, internal and skeletal anomalies were not significantly increased in all UTI-treated fetuses. Therefore, it
was
concluded that UTI have no effects on general toxicity of parent animals and fetal development and teratogenicity in SD rats.
